It is imperative that the correct
documentation is presented in order to effect timely clearance, and avoid
demurrage charges. The invoice, bill of lading and packing list are the
primary documentary requirements.
In the case of motor vehicle
clearances, the V5 registration book or Certificate of permanent export
showing the engine number, chassis number, year of manufacture and colour of
the vehicle is required to facilitate the Customs clearance.
Documents may be faxed for
Customs clearance purposes (clearance process takes up to 48 hours, so it is
advisable to fax the documents at least 72 hours before the vessel’s arrival
in order to avoid port storage).
The ORIGINAL/NEGOTIABLE bill of
lading is required by the Shipping agent before they can grant release of
the unit, so this must be sent to the clearing agent before the vessel’s
arrival.
